Elfin Forest, California

Elfin Forest is a rural community located 45 minutes north of San Diego. This community takes pride in preserving the rural environment. This is only possible due to lots of volunteer work and donations. The Town Council Board of Directors does a great job of ensuring space for open vistas and large animals.

In 1996 there was a large fire in Harmony Grove of Elfin Forest. Over 8,600 acres burnt down, taking more than 120 homes with it. Since then, the town has created a special garden next to the fire station called Firewise Garden. The purpose of this garden is to show to the community members which plants are safe to place around their home and demonstrate that even “fire-wise” plants can make a beautiful garden. This garden is fully taken care of by volunteers in the community.

Elfin Forest Recreational Area is home to 784 acres of land used for recreation, educational research, and environmental appreciation. Within this vast space are 11 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. Elfin Forest is a beautiful place for all those that have an appreciation for the outdoors.
